King expresses grief, sadness over violent attacks by Israeli regime on Al-Aqsa

KUALA LUMPUR: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah reaffirmed the Malaysian government supports the Organisation for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) emergency meeting to discuss atrocities by Israel on Palestine.

Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said the King also reaffirmed Malaysia's solidarity with Palestine towards achieving the aspirations of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, based on pre-1967 boundary lines, with Baitul Maqdis as its capital city.

"This is also in line with the Malaysian government's undivided stand and principles, supporting efforts to establish a sovereign and independent Palestinian state, in line with international laws and initiatives.

"The King expresses his grief and sadness following the aggression and violent attacks by the Israeli military regime on Al-Aqsa Mosque since May 7, and Gaza peninsula since May 10.

"His Majesty has described the ongoing aggression and attacks against Islam's third holiest site and on Palestinians in the final days of Ramadan as heinous, cruel and inhumane," Istana Negara said.

The King also expressed support for Malaysia to lead, together with Indonesia and Brunei, a joint statement to strongly condemn the oppressive attacks of the Zionist regime, said Ahmad Fadil.

He said the King had urged all Malaysians to continue fighting for the principles of justice and respect, apart from rejecting and opposing any form of violence and tyranny on mankind.

"The King also urged all Malaysians, regardless of race and religion, to pray together with him according to their respective beliefs so Palestianians are protected and their homeland is free from Israeli colonisation and oppression.

"He also decreed for all mosques and suraus in the country, and for the public in their own homes to perform 'solat hajat' (prayer of need) and 'doa selamat' to ask for Allah's mercy on Palestine after Maghrib prayers tomorrow, May 17."
