Johor planning to add more Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres

JOHOR BARU: The state government is planning to add more Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres following the rise of cases in Johor.

State Health and Environment Committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said, at the moment, the occupancy rate at the two centres in the state stood at 79 per cent.

"The state government is currently working on adding on more centres, including increasing the current capacity of the private centres," he told the New Straits Times.

The existing centres are at the Pasir Gudang Indoor Stadium and the private centre at DB Kompleks in Iskandar Puteri.

"The two centres have a total capacity of 1,200. The occupancy rate at the two centres is 79 per cent," said Vidyananthan.

As of May 16, there are 3,996 active Covid-19 patients in Johor who are quarantined and treated at home, hospital or at one of the centres.

Vidyananthan also said government hospitals are actively monitoring the usage of ICU beds available and will expand the numbers for Covid-19 patients when required.

"As of May 16, there were 82 Covid-19 patients in government hospital ICU, of whom 60 require ventilatory support.

"The utilisation rate of ICU beds specifically designated for Covid-19 patients has exceeded 90 per cent in government hospitals," he said.

He added that apart from government hospitals, private hospitals in the state are also providing 12 ICU beds for Covid-19 patients.

"The utilisation rate of the ICU beds in private hospitals currently stands at 42 per cent," said Vidyananthan.
