Several villages, low-cost housing areas in Terengganu, two localities in Sarawak to go under EMCO

KUALA LUMPUR: A dozen villages and several low-cost housing areas in Besut, Terengganu, will be placed under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) starting Thursday.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the Health Ministry had detected widespread Covid-19 transmissions in the Pelagat sub-district.

He said the villages were: Kampung Alor Selinsing; Kampung Bukit Yong; Kampung Tok Motong; Kampung Lak Lok Dalam; Kampung Lak Lok; Kampung Padang Landak; Kampung Padang Luas; Kampung Padang Luas Hilir; Kampung Padang Tapong; Kampung Paroh; Kampung Kubang Siam; and, Kampung Seberang Jerteh.

Also under EMCO will be the low-cost public housing in Seberang Jerteh and Pelagat 1, 2 and 3.

Ismail Sabri said, up to yesterday, the Health Ministry recorded 199 positive Covid-19 cases in the localities.

"The ministry also reported a significant increase in cases with high positivity rates and infection rates in the localities.

"The EMCO, until June 2, is aimed at regulating the movement of people in the district and curbing the spread of the virus to other areas."

In the same statement, Ismail Sabri said the Wun Ak Ering Longhouse and SK Bakerkong in Mukah, Sarawak, will be placed under EMCO from May 20 to June 2.

He said the Health Ministry recorded five positive Covid-19 cases in the localities, from symptomatic and close contact screenings.

"The ministry also reported a significant increase in cases with high positivity rates and infection rates in the localities.

"EMCO is to facilitate the targeted screening on the population and to curb the spread of the virus to other areas.
