HCTM, CITF collaborate in mobile PPV in Batu Pahat

BATU PAHAT: Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia's Cancelor Tuanku Mukhriz Hospital (HCTM) and the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) have collaborated to implement a mobile vaccination programme in Parit Sulong, here.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said the two-day programme, which ends tomorrow, is aimed at helping the government in providing wider access to Covid-19 vaccines for the rural community.

"The effort by HCTM is one of several approaches in providing the vaccine. It is being introduced by the ministry through the institution of higher learning vaccination centres (PPV IPT).

"The pilot project aims to vaccinate 300 local residents especially senior citizens, those who don't have access to MySejahtera, those with transportation problems or other problems," she said in a statement.

Noraini said the pilot project involved two models, namely a satellite PPV at MRSM Batu Pahat which aims to vaccinate 200 people during the two-day programme.

"The other model is to deploy two mobile PPV with eight staff to locations that have been identified and vaccinate 50 local residents with the focus on the disabled and those with special needs," she said.

She said the project involves the strategic cooperation of various government agencies at the federal and state level to curb the Covid-19 infection rate and to achieve herd immunity as quickly as possible.

"The ministry would like to thank CITF for the opportunity for higher learning institutes to collaborate to help handle the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

"The ministry is confident and committed that this joint effort will help to flatten the Covid-19 infection curve," said Noraini.

Last May, Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital pioneered the drive through vaccination method.
