Remaining work at DASH site will resume after ICE issues audit report

KUALA LUMPUR: The right lane on both sides of the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) near the Kota Damansara exit toll will remain closed for the time being after a metal scaffolding collapsed yesterday, part of the DASH highway construction, injuring two construction workers.

The Works Ministry said the remaining works at the site will only be allowed to continue after an Independent Checking Engineer (ICE) has issued an audit report on the incident.

According to the ministry, the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) and Consulting Engineer Zaidun Leeng Sdn Bhd (ZLSB) have been instructed to prepare detailed reports within a week.

"The initial review by LLM showed that the scaffolding design was in order and had been validated by the Consulting Engineer.

"There are 14 locations at the construction site. Four have been completed. The incident involved the fifth location where the work was being actively implemented.

"The remaining work involving 10 locations can only be continued after the audit report by the ICE is issued," the ministry said in a statement today.

Following the injuries of the two Bangladeshi workers, the ministry said it has instructed the project developer, Projek Lintasan Damansara Shah Alam Sdn Bhd to provide appropriate assistance to the affected victims.

In the 7pm incident yesterday, a construction worker was slightly hurt while another was seriously injured on the waist after being hit by a chunk of rubble.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department chief, Norazam Khamis said yesterday that both victims, in their 20s and 40s, were carrying out construction works under the 12m-high concrete structure, near the Kota Damansara exit toll.

The victims are being treated at the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

Projek Lintasan Damansara Shah Alam Sdn Bhd said the incident took place in a closed location on the Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway (DASH) construction site and did not involve road users.
