EMCO in three localities in Sabah and Kelantan from June 25 to July 8

KUALA LUMPUR: A two-week Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) will be enforced in three localities in Sabah and Kelantan from June 25 to July 8, to curb the spread of Covid-19 infections.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the affected areas were Kampung Pulau Tukang Dollah, Kemumin in Kota Baru, Kelantan; as well as Kampung Tambulion Ulu, Kota Belud and Kampung Kukut, Beaufort, in Sabah.

He said the EMCO in these areas was due to an exponential rise in cases in the areas, accompanied with a high infectivity rate.

The positivity rate in Kampung Pulau Tukang Dollah, he said, was at 65 per cent, with 41 out of 63 screened were tested positive.

"So far, 29 people in Kampung Tambulion Ulu have been screened, with 10 positive for Covid-19. In Kampung Kukut, 18 positive cases were recorded after 34 people tested," he said in a statement today.

He said previous EMCO standard operating procedures (SOP) will be applied in the areas from June 25 to June 8.

Ismail Sabri also announced the extension of the EMCO for Kampung Likas, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and five subdistricts in Labuan.

"The EMCO in Kampung Likas, scheduled to be lifted today, will be extended till July 7 because new cases are still reported in the locality. So far, the Health Ministry has conducted 2,058 screenings and 25 were found positive," he said.

For the five subdistricts in Labuan, he said to date, 1,632 positive cases had been recorded.

"The EMCO is supposed to end tomorrow (June 24), but with the infectivity rate still high, it will continue until June 28," he said.

Meanwhile, he said the EMCO in Kampung Batu Layar, Pulau Banggi, Kudat and Taman Wawasan, Beaufort, would end at 11.59pm today as scheduled.

The EMCO in Kampung Kutan Tengah, Wakaf Bharu subzone and Kampung Ketil, Pengkalan Kubor subdistrict in Tumpat, Kelantan; Felda Jengka 7, Maran, Pahang; Felda Inas, Kulai, Johor; Kampung Sinar Budi Baru, Kuching, Sarawak; Ong Yah Ho worker's housing, Kinabatangan, Sabah, will be lifted as scheduled on June 24 as cases had been brought under control.

He added the EMCO in Lorong Pasir Putih, Taman Pasir Putih Fasa 1, Putatan, Sabah, will be lifted a day earlier on June 24.
