Entire district of Seremban to be under EMCO [Updated]

KUALA LUMPUR: The entire district of Seremban will be placed under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) from July 9-22.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said monitoring conducted by the Health Ministry in Seremban's eight subdistricts showed there was an increase in Covid-19 cases.

He said as of July 4, there were 5,504 active cases in the district, which comprises the subdistricts of Ampangan, Labu, Lenggeng, Pantai, Rantau, Rasah, Seremban and Setul.

"The Health Ministry confirmed that infections are still occurring at a high infectivity rate in the locality, and this requires an urgent measure to stem further infections.

"An evaluation by various agencies in the Movement Control Order Technical Committee, and upon advice from the Health Ministry, the government has agreed to impose an EMCO throughout Seremban district from July 9-22.

"This will control the movement of people in all of its subdistricts to prevent further spread of Covid-19," he said in a statement.

Other locations in Sabah, Johor and Pahang will also be placed under the EMCO during the same period.

In Sabah, the EMCO will be imposed in Kampung Sungai Imam, Tawau, which has so far recorded 11 Covid-19 positive cases so far.

Ismail Sabri said Kampung Lembising and Kampung Dumpil Keramat in Putatan, Sabah, will undergo an EMCO after 17 positive cases were detected in Kampung Lembising, while 10 positive cases were detected in Kampung Dumpil Keramat.

The One Borneo Condominium in Kota Kinabalu, will also be placed under EMCO.

"The Health Ministry detected a prominent increase of cases within a short time period when 31 positive cases were recorded following screenings on 132 people in the locality so far. This location has a 23.5 per cent positivity rate."

Kampung Balibata, Beaufort, Sabah will also undergo an EMCO after 12 positive cases were detected following screenings on 25 people. The positivity rate in the area is 48 per cent.

The EMCO will also be imposed on Kampung Pintasan, Kota Belud, Sabah, which recorded 11 positive cases out of 34 screenings conducted. The positivity rate in the area is 32.35 per cent.

Kampung Istimewa, Batu Sapi, Sandakan, Sabah, which recorded 25 positive cases out of the 238 screenings, and which has a 10.5 per cent positivity rate, will also undergo an EMCO.

In Pahang, the EMCO will be imposed on the workers quarters of the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park (MCKIP) in Gebeng, Kuantan.

So far, 147 positive cases were recorded in this area following screenings conducted on 4,278 people so far. The positivity rate in the MCKIP area is 3.4 per cent.

In Johor, the EMCO will be imposed at the Indahpura Industrial Area as well as seven areas within the Senai Industrial Area.

"The Health Ministry identified seven clusters at these localities with a very high number of cases," he said.

In Kelantan, the EMCO will be imposed on Taman Kurnia Jaya and Taman Pinggiran Golf, Kota Baru.

Both of these housing estates have a total of 36 positive cases following screenings conducted on 83 people, and the positivity rate in the area is 43.4 per cent.
