Ismail Sabri: Over to you, Hisham

KUALA LUMPUR: After more than 400 days providing the people with the non-health updates pertaining to Covid-19, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will step aside for his successor, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein to take over the role, from tomorrow.

Ismail Sabri, now the Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, said he had shouldered the responsibility since March 20 last year to ensure the people were updated on the works done by the Compliance Operation Task Force.

"Every day, I have been getting the (Covid-19) security updates including on the SOP (standard operating operations), the border control and announced them to the people throughout the restricted movement order period and also on the National Recovery Plan.

"As you are aware, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein has been appointed the Senior Minister (Security Cluster) when I was appointed the deputy prime minister. As the new senior security cluster minister, he will take over the role from me.

"Starting tomorrow, he (Hishammuddin) will continue making the announcement on the enforcement of the SOP during the movement control order," he said.

Ismail Sabri also expressed his appreciation to all those who had been with him, from the administrative staff, the ministries and agencies involved as well as frontliners and Malaysians who wanted the country to be free from Covid-19.

He also thanked the media for the constant coverage on the daily updates.
