DCA grants conditional approval for Moderna vaccine

KUALA LUMPUR: Another Covid-19 vaccine, Moderna, has been granted conditional approval for emergency use, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said the matter was agreed during the 362th Drug Control Authority (DCA) meeting today.

"The meeting has agreed to grant conditional registration for emergency use for Spikevax 0.20mg/ml Dispersion for Injection Covid-19 RNA Vaccine (nucleoside modified) from product registration holder Zuellig Pharma Sdn Bhd and manufacturer Rovi Pharma Industrial Services, Spain.

"This vaccine is also known as Covid-19 Moderna vaccine," he said in a statement today.

Dr Noor Hisham said the conditional registration approval requires information on the quality, safety and effectiveness of the vaccine product to be monitored and evaluated based on the latest data from time to time to ensure that the benefits outweighs the risks.

He said the Health Ministry was always committed to improving access to Covid-19 vaccines by ensuring that the vaccines have been evaluated in terms of quality, safety, effectiveness by the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency and approved by the DCA.

The ministry has so far granted conditional registration for Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Cansino, Sinopharm, and Johnson & Johnson vaccines.
