Scuba diver's body found in Sg Besar waters

SHAH ALAM: A group of fishermen yesterday found a body in scuba diving suit strapped to an oxygen tank floating about 8.7 nautical miles southwest off Sungai Besar, about 102.9km from here

Selangor Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director Maritime Captain Mohd Rosli Kassim said the fishermen contacted the agency after discovering the body about 3pm.

He said an MMEA team and a marine police boat went to the scene and were able to locate it about 6 pm.

"The police took the body to the Sungai Besar fishermen's jetty at 9pm before it was sent to the Sabak Bernam Hospital for identification," he said.

Mohd Rosli said the discovery of the body was related to an incident of a missing scuba diver in the waters off Sungai Besar on Aug 3.

In the case, a diver named Calvin Patrick Lazaroo, 27, went missing in the waters off Sungai Besar at about 10.30am.

It was believed that he and three others had dived to rope in a sunken boat but he failed to surface.

A search and rescue operation was conducted in the area involving two MMEA assets, one asset from the Royal Malaysian Navy, two from the police and the fishing community.

An aerial search was also conducted by MMEA and police aircraft. -- Bernama
