Klang Valley, Negri Sembilan's Rt rate the lowest

KUALA LUMPUR: The infectivity rate or R-naught (Rt) in the Klang Valley and Negri Sembilan are among the lowest in the country at 1.02, which is lower than the national Rt.

This follows the setting up of the Greater Klang Valley Special Task Force on July 9 to handle the Covid-19 pandemic in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

The Rt rate in these states has reduced to below 1.0 and involves states which have also achieved herd immunity, with 86 per cent of their adult population fully vaccinated as of Tuesday.

Based on data shared by Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, Putrajaya recorded the lowest Rt with 0.80, followed by Negri Sembilan (0.82), Kuala Lumpur (0.87) and Selangor (0.95).

Another state with Rt below 1.0 is Melaka at 0.99, while Labuan which has a 92.6 per cent vaccination rate only reported four cases.

States with the highest Rt are Sarawak and Perlis tat 1.22 each.

This is followed by Sabah (1.21), Penang (1.12), Perak (1.09), Kedah and Kelantan (1.08), Terengganu (1.04) and Pahang (1.0).

The national Rt remains at 1.02 for the second day. It was 1.01 on Monday and 1.03 on Sunday.

According to the Ministry's projection, Covid-19 cases will continue to breach the 22,000 mark if the Rt exceeds 1.2 as a result of poor standard operating procedure compliance.
