Over 1,600 Orang Asli in Gua Musang vaccinated

KOTA BARU: A total of 1,644 individuals from the Orang Asli community received their Covid-19 vaccination during a four-day programme in Gua Musang recently.

The programme was jointly organised by the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF), Fire and Rescue Department, Orang Asli Development Department (Jakoa) and the local community.

Vaccinations were carried out at seven settlements - Pos Hau, Pos Belatim, Pos Balar, Pos Bihai, Pos Gob, Pos Pasir and Pos Simpor.

Kelantan health director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin said the community received various types of vaccines including the single-dose CanSino.

Dr Zaini said the programme which involved more than 30 healthcare staff started on Wednesday and ended yesterday.

"We have to use the service of several helicopters to bring in the vaccines as some of the areas are difficult to get to by land vehicles."

He said the department would continue to carry out such programmes to ensure the Orang Asli were protected from Covid-19.

A total of 10,535 Orang Asli are eligible to be vaccinated in Kelantan.

As of Saturday, more than 3,000 from the community, mostly in Gua Musang and Jeli, have been vaccinated.
