BUTTERWORTH: A man died after he was knocked down by a train at KM4.5 of the Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) track, near the Prai Industrial Area in Kampung Jawa here last night.
Prai police was alerted to the incident at about 8.20pm.
Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shafee Abd Samad said investigation revealed the victim, a local man in his 40s, sustained several injuries after he was believed to have been knocked down by a train along the track from Butterworth heading towards Bukit Mertajam.
"The victim was confirmed dead at the scene.
"His remains have been taken to the Seberang Jaya Hospital Forensic Unit for post-mortem after Covid-19 results have been obtained," he said today.
Shafee said further investigation also showed there was no foul play involved.
The death has been classified as a sudden death report (SDR).
"Our advice to the people is not to trespass into the gated area or attempt to cross the train track as it can endanger lives and result in damage of property," he added.
