Over 9,000 domestic violence cases since MCO 1.0 [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: A total 9,015 police reports were lodged over domestic violence since the movement control order (MCO) last year, said Women, Family, and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun.

However, she pointed out that the number of such cases this year showed a slight drop compared to previous years.

In 2019, 5,657 domestic violence cases were reported while 2020 recorded 5,260 cases.

"For 2021, reports received for domestic violence cases from January to October are 4,905," she told the Dewan Rakyat today.

Rina was replying to questions by Datuk Mohd Nizar Zakaria (BN-Parit) who asked on the statistics of domestic violence cases during the MCO and support provided to victims.

She said the ministry has set up various initiatives against domestic violence, including Talian Kasih 15999 and its online application, the 24-hour one-stop contact point for any domestic cases in the country.

"From March to Dec 2020, 2,286 complaints were received through Talian Kasih and from Jan to Aug 2021, 2,248 complaints were recorded," she said.
