KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's Covid-19 death toll has breached the 27,000 mark after 132 more deaths were reported to the Health Ministry as of 11.59pm yesterday.
The figure includes 26 cases which were brought in dead (BID), according to data shared on the Health Ministry's CovidNow portal.
To date, the virus had claimed 27,113 lives including 5,450 BID.
The ministry's data, however, revealed that the actual number of deaths as of 11.59 pm on Oct 7 was one (in-patient death), with zero BID.
At the national level, there were an average 4.5 deaths per 100,000 people over the past two weeks.
Penang recorded the most number of deaths in the same period with 11.1 per cent deaths per 100,000 people followed by Perlis (10.2) and Sarawak (6.6).
This was followed by Johor (6.2 per cent), Perak (5.3), Kelantan (5), Terengganu (4.7), Kedah (4.4), Melaka (3), Pahang (2.7), Klang Valley (2.1), Selangor (2.1), Kuala Lumpur (1.9), Labuan (1) and Negri Sembilan (0.9).
As of yesterday, a majority of reported deaths related to Covid-19 or 51.5 per cent involved people who were unvaccinated against the virus as per average data for the past two weeks.
Partially vaccinated people accounted for 15.2 per cent of the total fatalities linked to the virus in the country and 33.2 per cent of the total death cases involved people who have been fully vaccinated.
The data available on the portal also stated that the majority of the people who died from the virus were those aged 60 and above (66 per cent) while people aged from 18 to 59 accounted for 32.8 per cent of the fatalities, followed by those aged 0 to 11 years old (0.4 per cent) and 12 to 17 (0.1 per cent).
Currently, 74.4 per cent of the total population have been inoculated against the virus, with 64.3 per cent fully vaccinated.
In total, 21,004,275 people have completed their vaccination. It is projected that the country would achieve its goal of fully immunising 80 per cent of the population in 40 days by Nov 17.
Meanwhile, the ministry also reported 827 patients currently being treated at Intensive Care Units (ICU) at healthcare facilities nationwide. From the total, 445 are ventilated.
The Klang Valley reported the highest number of active ICU cases at 176 (Selangor with 140 cases, Kuala Lumpur at 34 and Putrajaya with two cases) with 72.4 per cent utilisation rate.
This was followed by Sabah (119 active ICU cases), Sarawak (118), Perak (82), Penang (70), Johor (66), Kedah (63), Kelantan (58), Melaka (22), Terengganu (19), Pahang (18), Negri Sembilan (nine), and Perlis (seven).
Hospital bed utilisation nationwide is currently at 69.3 per cent, with 64.1 per cent intensive care unit (ICU) beds occupied and 42.2 per cent of ventilators being used up.
Malaysia on Thursday reported 9,890 Covid-19 cases (9,872 local cases and 18 imported cases) and the total number of active Covid cases stood at 129,049 as of yesterday.
Of that, 80.4 per cent of active cases were observing home quarantine (103,717 people), while 12.8 per cent (16,558) were being observed at Covid-19 Low-Risk Quarantine and Treatment Centres.
Only 6.2 per cent of the cases (7,947) were being treated in hospitals.
