Girl, 7, struck by school van dies in hospital

SEPANG: A Year One student was killed after she was knocked down by her school van at Taman Dahlia, Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi, here, yesterday.

The seven-year-old victim sustained severe head injuries in the 12.10pm crash and was pronounced dead at a private hospital.

Sepang deputy police chief Superintendent Md Noor Aehwan Mohammad said police received a report on the accident at 1.10pm.

He said initial investigation showed that the school van was ferrying pupils from Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Seroja Sepang to a kindergarten that served as a transit point before the students went for their Fardu Ain classes.

He said after dropping all the pupils, the driver, a 31-year-old woman, immediately drove forward.

However, the victim, who was last to leave the van, was walking in front of moving van when the crash happened.

"The victim who sustained severe head injuries was rushed to Nilai Medical Centre at 2.30pm, where the medical officer pronounced her death. Her body was taken to Putrajaya Hospital for a post-mortem.

"Police had recorded statement of the driver and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said when contacted.

The video of incident was shared on the social media and since gone viral.

The video, which was part of the closed-circuit television footage, showed a van colliding with a pupil who was walking in front of the vehicle.
