Bentong police launch probe on officers linked to Medan Selera Karak incident

BENTONG: Police have launched a probe into the conduct of its officers who were on duty at a special counter for flood victims at Medan Selera Karak, near here.

Bentong police chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar said the department will investigate the incident along with several images which have gone viral on social media yesterday.

"Police will be transparent in our investigation and action will be taken against the personnel if these allegations are true. The public has voiced their frustration with the services provided at the counter and we will conduct a transparent probe.

"We hope members of the public who were present at the counter or involved with the incident will come forward to assist our investigation. They can contact the district police operation's room at 09-2222222," he said, adding the police were always committed to providing their best services to the people.

In the alleged incident, a social media user wrote that the complaints counter for flood victims at Medan Selera Karak was supposed to operate between 8am and 4pm but policemen arrived at 9.30am and then allegedly went to have their breakfast first.

An image shared on social media showed three individuals including two elderly men seated in front of the counter waiting to be attended.

Meanwhile, Zaiham said six mobile counters set up by the police have to date manually received about 3,107 reports.

He said besides the Medan Selera Karak, the counters were set up at temporary evacuation centres (PPS) at Dewan Arena Bentong, SMK Karak Setia, Bukit Piatu hall, Bukit dinding hall and Pascorp Paper.
