PLUS to conduct data analysis, regular monitoring and studies to enhance its RFID system

KUALA LUMPUR: PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) will conduct data analysis, regular monitoring and further studies to enhance its radio-frequency identification (RFID) system at all its highways.

The highway concessionaire said the improvements would allow customers to enjoy a smoother drive and gain the best experience of using RFID.

"Toll transactions via RFID that is in place throughout the PLUS network of highways received various feedback, including from some who commended this initiative and others who made suggestions for improvement.

"During the early stages of the system's implementation, PLUS has stationed customer service assistants and technical staff at critical toll plazas during peak hours to assist customers using the RFID lanes to ensure a better experience," it said in a tweet today.

Checks by Berita Harian this morning also found that congestions still occured at the RFID lanes in some areas, such as the Sungai Besi toll plaza, as many road users failed to scan their RFID tags.

The congestions occurred during peak hours when thousands of people were commuting to work.

However, the checks also found that PLUS has stationed personnel at the affected lanes to facilitate the RFID tag scanning process that managed to shorten the hours of congestion, to a certain extent.

PLUS, in a statement yesterday, said highway customers who experienced tag detection issues at the RFID lane need not worry as toll personnel would be present with handheld devices to scan their RFID tags.

Even if the tag remains undetectable, PLUS said a coupon for a full detection diagnostic at the nearest Touch N Go fitment centre would be provided.

Suppose the detection issue still persists, Touch N Go will then replace the RFID tag for free.

Many road users previously expressed their disappointment of enduring congestions at toll lanes due to glitches in the RFID system.

The situation worsened when road users who failed to make transactions via RFID had to switch to TNG lanes that eventually crowded all the toll lanes during peak hours.

Senior Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof had earlier urged PLUS and TNG to resolve any woes pertaining to the implementation of RFID as soon as possible.
