Police mounted units and e-bikes to patrol Kelantan-Thailand border

PASIR MAS: Police mounted unit will be deployed to help enforcement agencies monitor the country's border, with plans also underway to use electric bikes.

Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Hazani Ghazali said this was to curb illegal cross-border activities from taking place.

"As part of the efforts to curb smuggling activities along Malaysia-Thailand border, police mounted unit will be deployed together with e-bikes, for land surveillance.

"Smuggling activities such as drugs and human trafficking are still rampant along the border, but it is under control.

"Together with a new helicopter and drone units that will be deployed for air surveillance, we hope to put a stop to illegal cross-border activities here and other states bordering with Thailand," he said.

He said police mounted unit had already been formed in Perlis, with Kelantan set to be the second state to have it.

Both the mounted unit and the e-bikes are expected to be deployed soon, he said.
