Residents of 15 houses in landslide affected Taman Bukit Permai vacate their homes

KUALA LUMPUR: All occupants from 15 houses in Jalan Bukit Permai 1, Taman Bukit Permai affected by the recent landslide have vacated their homes after another landslide struck the area, yesterday.

This follows a local authority evacuation order issued on the advice of the technical team which feared continued unsafe soil structure and slope following the 7.10pm landslide.

Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) Zone 23, council member, Mohamad Saat said the affected occupants only involved a single row of houses in Jalan Bukit Permai 1 and did not involve another nearby row of houses.

"Only a row of 15 houses which are even-numbered, namely dwellings numbered from (No) 56 to (No) 84, whose occupants were ordered to evacuate, while another row of dwellings was not given the order.

"So, there is no issue, there are residents there who claim that they did not receive the evacuation order because the order was given on the night of the incident after the landslide occurred yesterday," he told Berita Harian, today.

Mohamad said he led the evacuation team and a temporary evacuation centre (PPS) was opened at the MPAJ Cheras Baru Hall, Kampung Cheras Baru near here for the evacuated residents.

However, he said so far, no affected residents have moved into the PPS because they may be more comfortable staying temporarily at the home of family or friends.

Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Farouk Eshak, was reported as saying that the 7.10pm landslide was at the same location as the first last Thursday that claimed four lives.

He added that MPAJ had instructed occupants of 15 houses in Taman Bukit Permai located close to the collapsed slope to evacuate after a study by the Minerals and Geosciences Department found that the land was unstable making it unsafe for residents.

Meanwhile, it was understood that a dialogue involving MPAJ and other relevant authorities with more than 50 homeowners affected by the Taman Bukit Permai 2 landslide, was held at the MPAJ Cheras Baru Hall today.

The closed-door dialogue session, at 2.30pm, was attended by Pandan member of parliament Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Hulu Langat District Officer Dr Ani Ahmad who is also the Hulu Langat District Disaster Committee chairman.
