Free first hour parking in Section 52, Petaling Jaya

KUALA LUMPUR: Starting April 25, road users can enjoy free parking for the first hour at the off-street enclosed parking lot (Kompleks A and Kompleks C) in Section 52, Petaling Jaya.

However, users will be charged RM1.50 for the subsequent hours.

The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) said the decision would encourage visitors to use the vacant parking spots at the off-street parking lot during peak hours.

"Section 52, Petaling Jaya is a city centre that hosts commercial activities, such as banking, businesses, restaurants, clinics, as well as government and private agencies and offices.

"As such, Section 52 receives high number of visitors, especially during peak hours, and the on-street parking spaces are unable to meet the demands of road users," it said in a statement today.

According to the city council's survey, Section 52 currently has 1,891 parking spots, including 1,093 on-street parking spaces, 406 in Kompleks A and 392 in Kompleks C of the off-street parking lot.

Only the on-street parking spots are fully occupied during peak hours, while 386 parking spots at the off-street parking lots remain vacant.

MBPJ staff who currently use on-street parking spots will also be asked to move their vehicles at the MBPJ headquarters' staff parking lot as well as to Kompleks A and Kompleks C.

"Doing so will increase the available on-street parking spots by 13 per cent for road users in Section 52.

"The decision to allow free parking for the first hour at Kompleks A and Kompleks C will take effect on April 25 while shifting vehicles of MBPJ personnel to staff parking lot is expected to complete in May 2022," it added.
