Over 75,000 Sada accounts in Kota Setar, Pokok Sena affected by water supply disruptions

ALOR STAR: Over 75,000 accounts under Syarikat Air Darul Aman (Sada) in Kota Setar and Pokok Sena districts are affected by water supply disruption after an irrigation canal bund belonging to the Muda Agricultural Development Authority (Mada) collapsed today.

Based on an infographic posted by Sada on its official Facebook page, the incident has forced the company to shut down its two water treatment plants (LRAs) in Pokok Sena and Bukit Pinang to make way for emergency works.

According to the posting, following the shutting down of the Bukit Pinang LRA, 60,000 accounts in Kota Setar district are affected by water supply disruption beginning 4.15pm today.

In Pokok Sena district, some 15,000 accounts are affected by water supply disruption following the temporary shutdown of Pokok Sena LRA.

In Kota Setar, among the affected areas are Pekan Langgar, Jalan Langgar to Alor Star City, Pekan Kepala Batas, Jalan Gunung, Jalan Sungai Baru and Jalan Pantai Johor towards Simpang Empat.

Also affected are Istana Anak Bukit, the Menteri Besar's official residence, Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Alor Setar Prison, Hospital Lama Alor Setar, Federal Government Building Complexes in Anak Bukit and state administration building Wisma Darul Aman.

The other affected areas are Jalan Kubang Rotan, Kampung Kota Nelayan in Kuala Kedah, Alor Janggus, Mergong, Shahab Perdana and Lebuh Raya Sultanah Bahiyah towards Ampang Jajar.

Meanwhile Mada chairman Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman is expected to issue a statement on the incident later this evening.
