2,722 new Covid-19 cases, 11 deaths yesterday

KUALA LUMPUR: The country recorded 2,722 new Covid-19 cases and 11 deaths on Tuesday (Aug 23), including three brought-in-dead.

Of the new cases, five were import cases. This brings the country's cumulative infections to 4,762,552 cases, according to the Health Ministry's CovidNow data.

Selangor tops the list with 879 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (879 cases), Sabah (214), Perak (165), Sarawak (161) and Negri Sembilan (141).

Other states with three-digit cases were Johor (107) cases, Melaka (105), Kedah (103), Kelantan (102) and Penang (101).

There are 35,551 active cases recorded as of yesterday.

Of the active cases, 34,068 people were placed under home quarantine and 31 others were being treated at the low-risk quarantine and treatment centre.

The cumulative total death cases rose to 36,166 cases on Tuesday.

Selangor reported four fatalities, Perak with three deaths, followed by Johor, Negri Sembilan, Melaka, and Sarawak with one death each.

The portal also reported 1,384 patients receiving treatment in hospitals, with 27 placed in intensive care units and 41 others requiring ventilator support.

A total 4,882 recoveries were also reported on Tuesday.
