Covid-19 daily infections drop to 2,491, zero imported cases reported

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia logged 2,491 new Covid-19 infections on Saturday (Aug 27) with no imported cases detected.

This brings the country's cumulative infections to 4,774,003 cases, according to the Health Ministry's CovidNow data.

Selangor tops the list with 656 cases, followed by other states with three-digit cases.

This includes Kuala Lumpur (507 cases), Sabah (234 cases), and Perak (211 cases).

Other states reporting three-digit cases are Negri Sembilan (157 cases), Sarawak (115 cases), Melaka (109 cases), and Penang (100 cases).

The recoveries remain higher with 3,715 cases bringing the country's recovery tally to 4,703,299.

CovidNow also showed that the number of active cases had gone down to 34,508.

Of these active cases, 33,090 people were placed under home quarantine and 22 others were being treated at low-risk quarantine and treatment centres.

The portal reported 1,324 hospitalised patients with 23 receiving treatment at intensive care units and another 49 of them requiring ventilator support.

Five deaths were reported including one bought-in-dead case.

Selangor and Kuala Lumpur reported two deaths each, followed by one BID case in Sarawak.

Malaysia's fatality tally now stood at 36,196.
