Former basketball coach receives surprise visit from Kota Baru incumbent MP

KOTA BARU: Despite being bedridden, former national basketball coach Wee Cheong Phor has never lost his spirit and continues to follow news or issues related to the sports.

He has been struggling with some medical issues since seven years ago and has been bedridden since then.

The former Malaysian Basketball Association committee chairman would either received the information from his former colleague or relatives.

The father-of-three yesterday received a surprise visit from former Kota Baru member of parliament Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, who had rushed to Wee's house in Kampung Cina after being told about his condition.

Wee said he did not expect to receive the visit from Takiyuddin, who is caretaker Energy and Natural Resources minister.

"I am really happy to receive this visit and got the chance to tell Datuk Seri Takiyuddin a little bit about my experience in basketball.

"I also expressed my confidence about his capability as a MP. He has been helping the people regardless their races," said Wee as he showed several certificates of appreciation he received to Takiyuddin.
