PEKAN: Five-term Jelai assemblyman Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail was sworn in as the 15th Pahang Menteri Besar for a new term at the Balairung Seri Istana Abu Bakar here today.

Clad in black Baju Melayu, the 64-year-old received the letter of appointment from the Regent of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah before taking the oath of office in the ceremony.

Wan Rosdy was sworn in for his second term after he replaced former Pelangai assemblyman Tan Sri Adnan Yaakob following the 14th general election in 2018.

Present during the ceremony today were State Secretary Datuk Seri Dr Sallehuddin Ishak and State Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Ishak Muhammad.

Others present at the ceremony were BN's six term Benta elected representative Datuk Seri Mohd Soffi Abdul Razak, newly elected Pekan member of parliament Datuk Seri Sh Mohamed Puzi Sh Ali, Peramu Jaya assemblyman Datuk Mohd Nizar Najib, who is the eldest son of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak along with other BN elected representatives.

BN's Tioman state seat candidate Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Hussan was also present.

All eight Pahang Pakatan Harapan(PH) elected representatives including Bentong member of parliament Young Syefura Othman and Raub member of parliament Chow Yu Hui were also present at the ceremony.

The eight PH representatives who won in the 15th general election are PKR's three-term Teruntum assemblyman Sim Chon Siang and Chan Chun Kuang from Semambu, while the six DAP elected representatives are Woo Chee Wan from Mentakab, Ho Chi Yang (Tanah Rata), Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji (Tras), Thomas Su Keong Siong (Ketari), Leong Yu Man (Triang) and Lee Chin Chen (Bilut).

Wan Rosdy's reappointment puts an end to the week-long guessing game for the new Pahang government and Menteri Besar.

For the first time, Umno's Wan Rosdy will lead a state government comprising BN and PH after Pahang ended up with a hung state assembly following the GE15 outcome for the east coast state.

BN only secured 16 seats, while Perikatan Nasional (PN) won 17. PH has eight seats.

The palace in a statement yesterday said Tengku Hassanal has approved the formation of the Pahang government by BN and PN , and agreed to appoint Wan Rosdy as the Pahang menteri besar.
