Selangor tables RM2.53 billion budget for next year [Updated]

SHAH ALAM: Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has presented a budget of RM2.53 billion for the state next year.

The 2024 Budget themed, "Independent Selangor: Driving Progress, Triggering Unity" (Selangor Mandiri: Memacu Kemajuan, Memicu Perpaduan) was tabled during the State Legislative Assembly today.

It will see 52.6 per cent or RM 1.33 billion of the budget going towards operational expenditure while the remaining 47.4 per cent or RM1.2 billion would go towards development expenditure.

"The state government estimates that revenue that can be collected to amount to RM2.2 billion, where this figure is projected based on the previous track record of revenue amounting to RM2 billion which was successfully collected between August 2022 and September 2023.

"Among the main contributors to the state's revenue in 2024 is the land premium (40.5 per cent), land tax revenue (28.3 per cent) and Federal Grants (9.7 per cent),"

"Hence, the budget is forecasted with a RM330 million deficit, which is lower by RM120 million than that forecasted for 2023," he said during the budget tabling session today.

The state's budget revolves around the four main core areas which are catalysts for quality investment and high income generation; education and guaranteeing environmental sustainability; protecting the welfare of the people and uplifting community unity.

Among the highlights of the budget under these cores are the allocation of RM133 million for water management and drainage for the state, RM26.5 million for the Selangor school assistance programme and the development of the Sultan Idris Shah Green Energy (SISGE) Plant through a Private Finance Initiative (PFI).

Amirudin also said the budget will also allocate RM59.7 million for public health, with RM35 million towards the Iltizam Selangor Sihat (ISS) programme, benefiting 100,000 main policyholders and an estimated 150,000 registered family members.

Each ISS policyholder is entitled to basic treatment and vaccinations totaling RM500 per year for the family category and RM250 per year for the individual category at any panel clinic throughout the state.

The budget also allocates RM 220 million towards the Selangor Smart Rental Scheme to help B40 and M40 income earners rent affordable housing.
