Heavy traffic, 2 accidents cause congestion in NSE

KUALA LUMPUR: Heavy traffic continues to build up in the North-South Expressway today.

Plus Malaysia senior general manager Mohd Yusuf Abdul Aziz said many people were returning home ahead of the Chinese New Year celebration.

"There are 1.99 million vehicles on the road today compared with 1.97 million on Thursday. The congestion is also due to the gloomy weather this morning.

"Many people went back to their hometown yesterday, and these included those who went back after work.

"However, we expect traffic to return to normal by the end of today," he told the "New Straits Times".

Yusuf said one of two accidents today involved a heavy vehicle at Km255.7 between Ipoh Utara and Sungai Perak, which caused an 11km-long congestion.

"No fatality was reported and the authorities have cleared the area."

The second accident, involving a truck and a car, happened in the northbound lane at Km428.9 between Sungai Buaya and Bukit Beruntung.
