PM Anwar lauds Menu Rahmah initiative

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim lauded the 'Menu Rahmah' initiative which offers easy on the pocket meals priced at under RM5 to lessen the people's burden.

Anwar said the government praised the initiative taken by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry led by minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.

"It ensures that the people are provided with some alternative and choice in a bid to reduce the cost of food," he said in a Press conference after chairing the weekly cabinet meeting today.

Also present were Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof as well as Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Sabah, Sarawak and Special Functions) Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.

Anwar said he was being updated with weekly reports not only on Salahuddin's ministry, but also the Agriculture and Food Security; and Plantation and Commodities ministries respectively.

"There are reports on the current developments and the ministries are also monitoring price movements.

"The last figures showed a slight reduction in inflation but it is not satisfactory, particularly in food outlets.

"That is why we welcome the initiative (of Menu Rahmah) by Salahuddin's ministry," he added.

Rahmah Menu consists of a plate of rice, chicken or fish, and vegetables was launched on Jan 31 this year which can be enjoyed for lunch or dinner.

So far, some 15,000 food premises have participated in the programme.
