Perak govt investigating claims woman turned away by Kampar Hospital for 'indecent' attire

IPOH: The state government will investigate claims that went viral on social media that a female patient was asked to leave Kampar Hospital by the medical officer on duty because she was allegedly dressed indecently.

State Human Resources, Health and Indian Community Affairs Committee chairman A. Sivanesan said, based on the feedback given by the hospital, the incident happened on Sunday at 11pm when the woman went to the hospital's Emergency Department to seek treatment.

He said, after being given a cursory examination, the officer on duty reprimanded the indecent clothing worn by the woman before leaving the counter at the hospital's emergency unit.

"As Malaysians, we should know the appropriate clothes to go to certain places. But for emergency cases, no matter what clothes people put on, don't get angry. So I need to get an explanation from both sides on this issue as soon as possible.

"I can't blame anyone but I will investigate this matter," he told reporters after attending the Free Health Checkup Programme at Mediklinik Sejahtera here, today.

He said this in response to an allegation that went viral on social media that a woman who wanted to seek treatment at Kampar Hospital was asked to go home and change her clothes by an officer on duty as she was wearing shorts.

On another note, Sivanesan said the Perak Health Department and Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) would hold a meeting with the Health Ministry regarding several health facility issues in the state.

He said the issues include the construction of the new Kampar Hospital which needs to be implemented immediately since the approval had already been given in 2019.
