Men who filmed couple engaged in indecent act posed as police, says lawyer

KUALA LUMPUR: The lawyer representing a young couple allegedly caught engaging in indecent behaviour in a car claimed that the men who recorded the incident had posed as policemen.

Tebrau member of parliament Jimmy Puah Wee Tse said the 'policemen' had attempted to obtain the duo's identification cards (IC).

"We were informed that the men who recorded the video had impersonated policemen.

"The couple were also threatened when they refused to hand over their ICs.

"They tried to escape, but they were chased by the people recording them until they arrived at the Pasir Putih police station," Puah said in a statement on Facebook yesterday.

The couple, a 22-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl, were arrested separately between 4.15pm and 5.15pm on April 7 at Taman Johor Jaya and Taman Kota Masai after the video of them in a car went viral.

They had been placed under remand for two days from April 8.

Puah also said that he had met the couple and their family members.

"I will be representing them pro bono. I hope that the police continue the investigation and give a complete picture," Puah said, adding that he would visit the Seri Alam district police headquarters today to get more details on the case.

Police are investigating the matter for "gross indecent behaviour".
