Stay home, police tell Orang Asli in Gua Musang after latest tiger attack

GUA MUSANG: Police have reminded the Orang Asli community, especially those in Pos Pasik, not to leave their houses unless there is something urgent they have to do.

District police chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo said the reminder was issued following the latest tiger attack that saw a 25-year-old Orang Asli man killed.

He said the reminder was not only issued to the Orang Asli in Pos Pasik but also to those in other surrounding settlements.

"If possible, they should try to avoid leaving their homes if there is nothing important... but if they need to go out, they have been told to walk in groups.

"The Orang Asli people need to take this precaution to prevent a recurrence of the incident," he said.

So far, he said, there was no fresh clue about the tiger except its paw prints found yesterday near the scene of the attack.

"Rangers from the state Wildlife and National Parks Department are still trying to track down the tiger," he said.

It was reported that the victim, Pisie Amud from the Temiar tribe, was mauled by a tiger at Pos Pasik, here.

The victim was said to have not returned home to Kampung Sugi after going out fishing on Tuesday.

Villagers started looking for him after realising he was missing and found a motorcycle, camping equipment, and tiger paw prints in several different locations along the hills around Kampung Perwer, near an oil palm plantation.

They found his bloodied body not far from where the paw prints were seen.

Orang Asli Village Security Development Committee chairman Mohd Sani Nahtiman had said several villagers rushed to the scene about 6pm on Tuesday after being informed about the discovery of the body.

He had said the villagers kept a close watch over the body while waiting for police to arrive, since they were afraid that the tiger may return.

He claimed about 4am on Wednesday, the tiger returned, possibly to take the body, but the villagers set off firecrackers and made lots of noise to drive off the beast.
