Drug-positive trailer driver involved in container-related motorcycle accident

KEPALA BATAS: A motorcyclist was injured when he crashed into a shipping container which had dislodged from a trailer at Jalan Paya Keladi, Pinang Tunggal, here this afternoon.

Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Asri Shafie said the 54-year-old motorcyclist sustained minor injuries in various parts of his body during the 1pm mishap.

He said the incident transpired when the victim was following a trailer transporting a freight container from Bertam Indah to Kuala Ketil, Kedah.

The container struck the tunnel's roof as they traversed a tunnel on Jalan Paya Keladi.

"When the shipping container slid backwards, the motorcyclist failed to brake in time and hit it," he said.

Mohd Asri said the trailer driver, also 54, did not sustain any injuries.

"Urine test on the trailer driver came back positive for drugs.

"We will be seeking a remand order for the driver as part of our ongoing investigation," Mohd Asri added.

The case is being investigated under Section 44 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
