RM100 million rice supply scam: Sanusi gives 24-hours to withdraw posts implicating Kedah GLC

ALOR STAR: Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor today gave 24-hours to those who accused the state government-linked company of being involved in a RM100 million rice supply scam.

Sanusi said failing which, he would instruct lawyers to take initiate legal action against whoever who failed to withdraw social media postings that implicated the state GLC or state government leaders with the rice supply scandal.

"They have made horrendous allegations without checking facts. We are giving them 24 hours to withdraw the postings that implicated the scandal involving locally produced rice with Kedah GLC or any leaders in Kedah.

"Failing which, we will instruct our lawyers to take legal action," he said in a press conference after chairing the state executive council meeting at Wisma Darul Aman here today.

Sanusi was responding to news reports on Monday that MACC has uncovered a fraudulent scheme involving a rice supply company in Kedah.

It was reported that the company secured a rice supply contract from a state-owned agriculture firm worth over RM100 million annually approximately seven years ago for rice distribution in Peninsular Malaysia.

It was also reported that, under the contract, the company obtained a bank loan of approximately RM30 million to finance the project several years ago.

However, the company's director had allegedly conspired with a board member of the state-owned company to confirm the purchase and delivery of approximately 28,000 tonnes of rice per year, valued at over RM100 million, but the supply was never made.

It was reported that the company is said to have already received an approximate sum of RM30 million through several transactions despite not making the delivery.
