Shocking video of alleged police brutality in Klang Selatan emerges [NSTTV]

KLANG: A shocking video footage of a suspect being beaten by alleged narcotics police has surfaced and is making the rounds on social media.

The eight-second video clip was shared on the Edisi Siasat Telegram group and quickly went viral at 8am today, amassing over 30,000 views since it was uploaded.

"This is evidence of how the Klang Selatan IPD Narcotics treat their suspects during arrests.

"Then they give the drug package to the suspect and force him to admit to making drugs," read the caption accompanying the post.

In the viral video, one of two men are seen stepping on the knee of a man believed to be a suspect, while the other is observed whipping the suspect's foot with what appears to be a cane or rubber hose.

The method is believed to be falanga, a method of foot whipping which inflicts pain by administering a beating on the soles of a person's bare feet.

It has been recognised as a form of torture by the European Court of Human Rights.

In a statement released today, police have assured a fair and impartial investigation, pledging not to shield any party in connection with the case involving the alleged assault of the detainee.

South Klang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Cha Hoong Fong said police viewed the case seriously.

He said an investigation will be conducted in response to the misconduct complaint depicted in the viral video.

"The police will not tolerate any misconduct by senior officers or police personnel who have violated established rules and laws.

"The police also guarantee that the investigation will be conducted with fairness and impartiality, without showing favouritism to any party involved.

"We, therefore, urge all parties not to engage in any unfounded speculations regarding this case," he said in a press release.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the incident took place in the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of the South Klang district police headquarters at around 10.30 am on August 2, 2022.

He further disclosed that investigation papers have been initiated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and the suspect was charged in the Klang Court on August 8 last year.
