Its director-general Datuk Sapiah Mohamad Nor said the route spanning more than 90km would connect a few Orang Asli settlements in the district

She added about 10,000 Orang Asli from Pos Betis, Pos Bihai, Pos Belatim, Pos Balai and Pos Hau would benefit from it.

"The Orang Asli community are happy after the federal government decided to speed up the project. It will most likely start early next year," she told reporters here yesterday.

Sapiah was accompanied by Kelantan/Terengganu Jakoa director Zarina Razlan.

She said once the project was completed, issues of transport and other problems faced by the Orang Asli due to the lack of road facilities would end.

She also thanked Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for his promise to ensure the project went smoothly.

"Jakoa also would like to thank the state government for giving its cooperation for this project.

"Road, transport and water supply are the most important facilities for the Orang Asli .

"The water supply problem in Orang Asli settlements has been critical but they know that the federal government is trying its best to help them," she added.
