Jakoa: 20 tonnes of food supplies en route to five Orang Asli settlements

GUA MUSANG: A total of 20 tonnes of food aid is being dispatched to five Orang Asli settlements that were cut off due to landslides last week.

Department of Orang Asli Development (Jakoa) director-general Datuk Sapiah Mohd Nor said these supplies would be transported using a Mi-171 helicopter to Pos Gob, Pos Bihai, Pos Balar, Pos Belatim and Pos Simpor.

"A total of 1,097 families from 56 villages will receive this food aid, such as rice, cooking oil and several other items.

"Jakoa would like to thank the Fire and Rescue Department's Air Unit and the Civil Defence Force (APM) for assisting in delivering food supplies to these remote areas," she told reporters at the Gua Musang District Council Multipurpose Hall Complex here today (Jan 2).

Meanwhile, Assistant Fire Superintendent, Amir Fitri Salim, who is in charge of the operation, said that the mission is expected to conclude by Friday.

"Yesterday (Jan 1), 19 crew members were involved in delivering over four tonnes of food supplies to Pos Bihai and Kampung Gawin in Pos Gob.

"Today (Jan 2), approximately six tonnes of food supplies will be sent to four locations, namely Pos Belatim and Kampung Perawas, Kampung Sempadik and Kampung Dakoh in Pos Balar," he said. – Bernama
