MACC launches operation room for Jepak by-election

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today launched an operation room in Sarawak for the public to channel information and complaints related to acts of corruption and abuse of power in the Jepak state assembly.

The operation room will operate 24/7 starting from today until Nov 4, 2023 and will be located at the MACC Bintulu Office, Level 2, Wisma Persekutuan Fasa II, Jalan Tun Razak, PO Box 6000, 97008 Bintulu, Sarawak.

In addition, the public can also channel any complaints of corruption or abuse of power via email to prk2023_bintulu@sprm.gov.my. or by contacting 086-316200.

The MACC also reminded all candidates and political parties who are competing not to engage in activities that may violate election laws and regulations in line with the MACC Act 2009 and the Election Offences Act 1954.

Earlier today, national news agency Bernama reported that the Jepak state by-election will see a three-way battle between the candidates of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) and Parti Aspirasi Rakyat Sarawak (Aspirasi).

GPS candidate Iskandar Turkee, 54, will be challenged by PBK's Stevenson Joseph Sumbang, 42, and Parti Aspirasi Rakyat Sarawak candidate, Chieng Lea Phing, 64 in the by-election which is held following the death of the incumbent, Datuk Talib Zulpilip on Sept 15.
