Police investigating alleged bullying case at Kuala Kangsar boarding school

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have launched an investigation into a bullying case involving a Form Four student, who was allegedly assaulted by his Form Five senior at a boarding school in Kuala Kangsar, Perak last month.

Kuala Kangsar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Omar Bakhtiar Yaacob confirmed that a report had been lodged over the incident at about 10am on Sept 24.

"During the incident, the victim, who is a Form Four student, claimed he was assaulted by his Form Five seniors.

"The victim was rushed to Kuala Kangsar Hospital for treatment by the management of the school.

"The doctor who treated and conducted 'Normal Physical Finding' on the victim confirmed that the student did not suffer severe injuries," Omar said in a statement today.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntary causing hurt.

Omar, however, did not elaborate if there was any arrest made to facilitate police investigation into the case.

Meanwhile, screenshots of a social media posting by a woman believed to be the sister of the victim went viral on the social media.

Apart from sharing the predicament faced by the victim, the woman also vented her frustration over the 'light punishment' received by the students who had allegedly assaulted her brother.

The woman claimed the students, who allegedly assaulted her brother, only received between two and three strokes of the rotan.

The woman was also baffled why there was no expulsion against the student, who allegedly hit the victim despite the predicament faced by her brother.

The series of screenshots of the social media posting was posted by an X (formerly Twitter) user via the handle @NanaZamri. The social media posting has since gained 918,000 among users.

The New Straits Times is on the process of getting comments over the incident from Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.
