KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia along with the Muslim countries will convene for an emergency meeting to discuss the Palestine-Israel conflict.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said they were currently discussing the selection of invited members and the date for the meeting.
"The Muslim countries should convene promptly, and we have suggested extending invitations to include countries such as China, Russia, Bolivia, Ireland, and Brazil, which share a similar stance with us.
"But, we need to engage in discussions to reach a consensus since otherwise, we might have only Muslim countries in attendance. This has been decided.
"We have discussed the date, and, inshallah, I will attend the meeting by all means," he said after launching the Malaysian Digital Expo 2023 Grand Finale.
Anwar expressed Malaysia's support for a proposal by Turkiye and Saudi Arabia to convene an Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meeting to discuss the Palestine issue.
Anwar earlier slammed parties who politicised and made use of the Palestinian issue to berate others.
"People are dying, homes and many areas are destroyed.
"We should not politicise this and don't capitalise on the misery of others," he said.
Anwar advised those leveraging on the issue for their own political mileage to focus instead on working towards helping the Palestinians.
He also gave his assurance that he is doing everything he can, adding that not everything being done could be publicised.
"Not everything can be shared because our priority as I have discussed with the Netherlands prime minister and Japan prime minister is to look for a solution to stop the attack, the killing of children, women and Palestinians.
"Secondly is to provide food and medicine aid," he said.
