Electrical fire breaks out at Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur, no injuries reported

KUALA LUMPUR: An electrical fire broke out at Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur at 9.30am today.

Pantai fire and rescue department chief Wan Mohd Shahrir Azizi Wan Said told the New Straits Times that the hospital's security officers had smelt some smoke coming from the uninterrupted power supply (UPS) room.

"It's lucky that we acted as quickly as possible before the fire became widespread," he said.

He also said that the whole episode from receiving the call from the hospital to putting out the fire only took half an hour.

"It only took us two minutes from our station to the location," he added.

In an Instagram post, PHKL said a battery had overheated in the UPS room at 9:30am today near the hospital's cancer centre.

"All patients and staff of the affected departments were safely evacuated, no injuries reported and we are awaiting the fire department to complete their final round of precautionary checks," it said.

The hospital said that it will resume operations after getting the fire department's nod.
