RapidKL bus catches fire in Jalan Syed Putra; no injuries reported

KUALA LUMPUR: A RapidKL bus caught fire near the Ambulance Insaf Malaysia premises on Jalan Syed Putra here, about 8am today.

No passengers were injured during the incident. The stage bus was heading towards Old Klang Road when the fire broke out, forcing the driver to stop the bus by the side of the road.

It is learnt that passengers who were travelling on the bus were told to alight the vehicle and firefighters doused the flames.

A city Fire and Rescue Operations Centre spokesperson said they received an emergency call at 8.06am, and immediately sent out a fire engine to the scene.

A 16-member team from the Hang Tuah and Seputeh Fire and Rescue stations led by Senior Operations Commander Mohd Suhaimi Mohd Razali controlled the fire within minutes using the water from the auxiliary pipe attached to the fire engine.

"Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.

"The bus was almost completely razed at an estimated 90 per cent," said Suhaimi, adding the cause of the fire was still being investigated.

The peak hour incident caused massive traffic congestion on both sides of Jalan Syed Putra, including the lane heading towards the city centre.
