MoE takes strong stance against bullying, sexual harassment in educational institutions

KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry (MoE) will not tolerate bullying or sexual harassment in any of the educational institutions under its purview.

In a statement today, the ministry said bullying and sexual harassment were serious misconduct and should not be taken lightly by any party.

"MoE takes note of media reports regarding a bullying case in a boarding school that has gone viral.

"Action has been taken in this case and it is currently under investigation by the authorities," said MoE.

To underline its commitment to eradicating such behaviours from educational institutions, a guideline to address bullying and sexual harassment was launched in September this year.

"Special Circular Letters (SPI) Number 12 and 13/2023, dated Nov 3, serve as a guide to address incidents of bullying and sexual harassment in all MoE educational institutions," the statement reads.

MoE has established three primary channels to allow the public, including students, parents and the community, to report cases of bullying and sexual harassment.

These channels include a dedicated bullying complaints hotline, email at adubuli@moe.gov.my and bullying complaints via the Public Complaints Management System (SISPAA).

"MoE also monitors the timeliness of information dissemination related to bullying and sexual harassment based on Standard Operating Procedures, with a 1:3:7-day timeframe," it added.

MOE remains steadfast in its commitment to creating a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students, teachers, and the broader educational community under its purview.
