Authorities to monitor toilet maintenance contractors for proper execution

KOTA KINABALU: Relevant authorities will monitor the contractors responsible for toilet maintenance to ensure that it is done properly, says Kalabakan Member of Parliament Datuk Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy.

In July, the Education Ministry had given a three-month period for each school to complete toilet maintenance work for the comfort of students.

Its minister Fadhlina Sidek had said at the time that her ministry was in the process of allocating RM70,000 to each school throughout the country for maintenance work.

Andi, who is also Tanjung Batu assemblyman, said he had received reports that there was a disparity in the repair of school toilets when compared to other localities.

"This is quite disappointing and disheartening because the maintenance is not carried out in line with the intentions and pure intentions of the government.

"With a budget allocated of RM70,000 for each school for toilet maintenance, it should be done better," he said in a statement.

The Deputy Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship minister also called on the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) to monitor the implementation of school toilet maintenance to ensure that it is done better for the comfort of all students.

Last week, it was reported that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is looking into the federal government's RM91 million allocation for 1,100 school toilets refurbishment projects in Sabah.

The move was made following public complaints that the upgrade of toilet facility projects at certain schools were shoddy or did not meet the requirements in the contracts.
