Missing teacher in Sedim recreational park may still be alive

ALOR STAR: Police have confirmed receiving leads indicating that, Mohd Hafiz Jasmi, a 38-year-old school teacher reported missing at the Sedim Recreational Park in Kulim since Nov 10 may still be alive.

Kulim district police chief Mohd Azizul Mohd Khairi said this based on new information obtained, Hafiz, who teaches Islamic Education at SK Taman Ria, was last seen by a witness leaving the park in another vehicle.

Azizul said that search and rescue (SAR) operations were suspended after five days of Hafiz's disappearance, as no substantial leads were found.

"The previous SAR was conducted up to the peaks of Gunung Bintang in the recreational park area but we found no leads.

"In addition, Hafiz's Proton Saga found near the recreation park area is in good condition, locked, and no elements of criminal activities were found there," he said when met at the state police contingent headquarters here today.

Azizul said that the case has been classified as a missing persons case.

Meanwhile, he advised individuals or groups still searching for Hafiz in the recreational park to cease their efforts.

"All activities in that area needs approval from the Forestry Department. We don't want others to go missing, so I advise stopping the search there.

"Besides, the recreation park area is currently closed due to the uncertain weather conditions," he added.

On Nov 11, it was reported that Hafiz went missing on, triggering a SAR operation after the discovery of a Proton Saga at the site believed to belong to him.
