Give equal allocation to all elected representatives, Zulkefli tells Penang govt

GEORGE TOWN: An opposition assemblyman has called for equal allocation for all lawmakers in the state.

Zulkefli Bakar (Bersatu - Penanti) said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow would be tabling the 2024 Budget this Friday.

"We want to remind him that the allocation given should be made without any discrimination.

"Equal and allocation to all lawmakers in the state is very important for the development of the state," he said when debating the speech by Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak at the state legislative assembly sitting here today.

Zulkefli, who is state Bersatu chairman, hoped the allocations would be distributed fairly.

Earlier this month, the Penang government said it had no intention to increase the allocation for opposition elected representatives in the 2024 Budget.

Chow had said that the state government would continue the practice of giving allocations as before whereby opposition elected representatives were given RM60,000 per year compared to state government elected representatives who received RM500,000 per year.
