Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone and SFZ catalysts for state development, says MB

ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) and Special Financial Zone (SFZ) Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Singapore and Malaysia is set to be signed on Jan 11, next year.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said following the Jan 11 MoU, he hopes that a memorandum of agreement detailing the MoU will be inked within six months to ensure its implementation will begin early 2025.

"The JS-SEZ and SFZ serve as a catalyst for the state's development, and will help propel economic growth.

"To complete Johor's ecosystem as a primary investment destination in this region, prompt execution of the High-Speed Rail (HSR) and Light Rail Transit (LRT) is required," Onn Hafiz said, adding that the federal government should expedite the execution.

Earlier, the menteri besar tabled the Johor 2024 Budget at Bangunan Sultan Ismail in Kota Iskandar, near here, today.

In his speech he said to ensure that Johor escalates its economic growth to a level in line with the goals set for 2030, it was paramount to empower investment missions and enhance regional cooperation.
