Two international schools in Penang receive bomb threats - Police

GEORGE TOWN: Penang police have received two reports on bomb threats in two international schools here today.

Acting Northeast police chief Superintendent V. Saravanan said both schools - one in Tanjung Tokong and another at Jalan Sungai Pinang - received the threats through email.

"We have opened two separate investigation papers under Section 507 of the Penal Code to investigate these cases.

"The schools received similar email contents today from the same sender with the title 'Explosive Buried in School'," he said today.

According to Saravanan, the sender claimed to be suffering from hardship and was hated by everyone.

He said the sender also claimed to have been raped by the father since small and insulted in school.

"The UPB team from the state police headquarters and K9 unit were despatched to both schools but did not find anything suspicious.

"The Fire and Rescue Department was also at both scenes," he said.

Saravanan said police would liaise with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to get more details on the sender.

Earlier today, multiple international schools in the Klang Valley reported bomb threats.

Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan confirmed to the New Straits Times that police received reports from seven international schools, with two each in Petaling Jaya and Shah Alam, and one each in Kajang, Subang Jaya, and Kuala Langat.
