Kemaman by-election: Four escape with light injuries after crashing into a tree while helping campaign

KEMAMAN: The Padang Rengas Umno division women's chief along with three others escaped with light injuries after the car they were travelling in crashed into a tree while they were campaigning for the Kemaman by-election here today.

The 10am accident occurred when Dr Taslimah Jalaludin and the three others were travelling in a Proton Exora to campaign at Teluk Kalong here.

Taslimah said the car driver suddenly suffered from a seizure before crashing into a parked vehicle and subsequently slamming into a tree.

"We were meeting voters at Teluk Kalong. We visited two homes and were travelling to the third house when the incident occurred.

"Luckily, I only suffered minor injuries on the leg and all the others escaped with light injuries. We received outpatient treatment at Kemaman Hospital," she said when contacted.

Taslimah who was elected as the division's women wing chief in March has been in Kemaman since Nov 19 to help with Barisan Nasional's (BN) by-election campaign.

The Kemaman parliamentary seat by-election on Dec 2 is a straight fight between Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar from PN and Gen (Rtd) Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor, who was picked to represent BN.

The by-election was called following the decision of the Terengganu Election Court on Sept 26 to annul the victory of Pas candidate Che Alias Hamid in the 15th General Election.
