In the face of uncertainty: Tumpat's proactive residents prep boats for the monsoon's arrival

KOTA BARU: Residents in the low-lying areas of Tumpat are gearing up for the potential threat of floods, even though the district has not yet been affected.

In Kampung Jejuluk, Tumpat, villagers are actively preparing for the possibility by repairing and giving their boats a fresh coat of paint, which is a crucial means of transportation during floods.

Mohamad Badrul Amin, a 27-year-old self-employed resident, shared his proactive approach.

"I bought this boat three years ago and use it whenever there's a flood in my village.

"It becomes essential for transporting my family to the relief centre and visiting a nearby sundry shop during the monsoon season," he explained.

Last week, he dedicated time to repairing and giving his boat a fresh coat of blue paint to ensure its functionality and appearance.

He highlighted that many villagers in Kampung Jejuluk own boats or small perahu, making it more convenient for them to navigate through the challenges posed by the monsoon season.

Flood in Kelantan, which began on Sunday, continued to improve as only one relief centre remained open this afternoon.

The relief centre was SK Tok Deh in Rantau Panjang, which accommodated 49 victims from 17 families.
